Q & A: Lindsay Allen, D2N2 LEP Senior Programme Manager (Sector Development)

D2N2 Growth Hub are a partner in this year’s Pitchfest competition at Venturefest East Midlands. Here we find out their thoughts on the business landscape in the East Midlands and how D2N2 can help your business grow.

  • Venturefest East Midlands is returning to the D2N2 region this year having first been there in Nottingham in 2015, how do you think the business landscape in the area has changed in that time?

Businesses have never had it so good, with regards to the resources and support we now have available to help them grow and improve. There are still many challenges out there, especially with the uncertainty of Brexit on the horizon, however the local economy is positive and businesses are remaining buoyant.

  • How can SME business owners benefit from attending Venturefest East Midlands?

By gathering information and making contact with the many business support programmes and funding streams, which are available to SMEs. By gaining inspiration from other companies and finding out about new opportunities for innovation. Also, by networking with potential new customers and making sales!

  • For businesses in the area who haven’t yet connected with D2N2 Growth Hub, how can they work more closely with you going forwards?

They can take advantage of our free workshops, which are all geared to help businesses grow and improve their business performance. Our business advisors are available to give one-to-one reviews, and to assist in signposting to funding streams and support programmes. We’ll also keep businesses updated on any new funding and support packages, so they don’t miss out on what’s available.

  • What are the main highlights for you of this year’s event programme at Venturefest East Midlands?

We’re one of the main partners for Pitchfest, so this is definitely a highlight for us. The D2N2 Growth Hub is all about supporting new and existing businesses to grow, and Pitchfest gives organisations the opportunity to do this through showcasing their innovative ideas and solutions.

  • How do you expect the business landscape in the region to change over the next 2-3 years?

This is one of the most challenging landscapes that many businesses have ever faced, however the existing EU funded support programmes can help businesses go from strength to strength.

  • What has been your highlight of Venturefest East Midlands since the inaugural event in 2015?

Seeing companies grow through the Pitchfest process.

  • The D2N2 Growth Hub can assist local businesses with growth and finance, are there any new grants or funding opportunities available for 2017?
